My Holy Grail Products for Natural Hair

I’ve been natural for over 5 years and have tried many hair products during that time. I have a few staple products that I thought I’d share with you. These days, 90% of the time, my hair is kept in some type of protective style. I just don’t care to spend a lot of time trying to do my real hair, believe me, it’s work! What I like about the products listed below is that I can use them on my real hair as well as when I have a style with extension hair added. Continue reading to learn about my holy grail natural hair products.

1. Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Crème
Out of all the products listed, I’ve been using this one the longest. I have a kinky/coily hair texture, and this product keeps my hair moisturized and soft. It is made with castor oil (which seals in moisture and softens hair), olive oil (lubricates hair, making it soft), amla extract (nourishes and conditions scalp and hair) and MSM (nourishes hair follicles and supports healthy hair growth).

I typically use this product as a styling agent when twisting my hair for twist-outs and as a moisturizer before attempting any style. I apply it all over from roots to ends. A little goes a long way, so it’s recommended that you use no more than a quarter-sized amount to dry or damp hair.

2. Jamaican Black Castor Oil
I’ve been using Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBC) for quite some time. JBC has many hair benefits. It’s nutrients help to keep hair moisturized. It also helps to eliminate dandruff and itchy scalp. I use Jamaican Black Castor Oil on wet and dry hair and apply from roots to ends. Additionally, Jamaican Black Castor Oil strengthens hair and helps to prevent breakage.

3. Crème of Nature Shampoo and Conditioner
When my hair was relaxed (about 20+ years of my life), my go-to hair brand was Crème of Nature. As a natural, I recently started back using their shampoo and conditioner and I’ve fallen completely in love all over again! Not only is the smell pleasant, but also the products feel good to my scalp. The shampoo gets my hair clean and the conditioner helps keep it nourished. The conditioner also aids in that the creamy consistency makes detangling easier.

4. Sea Breeze
When wearing protective styles, I use Sea Breeze to cleanse my scalp in between washes. What I do is pour some on a clean cloth, section my hair and gently rub it on my scalp. It’s ideal for when my hair has gotten sweaty after a workout, or when I just don’t have time to wash it. My scalp instantly feels clean and fresh after each use.

5. Edge Control
The jury is still out when it comes to me finding the perfect edge control to lay down my edges. One of my stylists, Whitney, can always seem to lay my edges, but I’m not certain what brand of edge control she uses on me. I’m about 85% confident that it’s Design Essentials though. If I can find an edge control that can lay my edges and not flake, I will be ecstatic! I do know that my hair is more apt to lie down when it’s been blown out well or straightened.

Have you used any of these products before? How have they worked for you? Are there any other products that you would recommend for kinky/coily hair? Let me know in the comments below!

Hi Marquita! I’ve been natural for about 5 years too and the best ever control over tried is the Curls Blueberry Bliss. It holds my hair and my daughter’s hair with no flaking at all. We have two different textures of hair so we usually use different hair products but that is one product we can share. Also what brand of Jamaican Black Castor oil do you use?

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for letting me know! I will give the Curls edge control a try. I’ve seen a few YouTubers use it, and it seems like a nice product. I hope it will work well for me! I use the Jamaican Black Castor Oil from the Shea Moisture brand.
