Out of all the garments in my closet, I’d have to say that one of my favorite pieces of clothing to wear is a blazer. I currently have about 20 blazers in my closet, and I promise you, that no two are the same. I purchase blazers from almost anywhere. Some of my best ones have come from The Limited (old brick and mortar store), Zara, Loft and even thrift stores.

There are two reasons why you need to have a few good blazers in your wardrobe. First, blazers are garments that offer versatility. I don’t know about you, but I love when I can wear an item year round. It means I’m getting more bang for my buck in terms of cost-per-wear, thus, making blazers such a great investment. Of course I tend to wear lightweight blazers during spring and summer in those cold air-conditioned buildings, and my heavier wool-type blazers during fall and winter. There are some, however, that I can make work throughout all seasons. For example, layering a chunky knit sweater or long sleeve blouse under a lightweight oversized blazer would work well during the cooler months.

Another reason why you need a few good blazers in your wardrobe is because they add an element of sophistication. Have you ever just stood in the mirror, looked at your outfit and thought that something was missing? I know I have! What’s missing is a blazer that will make your look polished. On casual workdays when allowed to wear jeans, I often throw on a structured blazer to dress up the look. I feel like the addition of a blazer helps prevent me from blending in with students, while still giving off an effortless, semi-professional vibe. Additionally, it gives the impression that I should be taken seriously and that I know how to handle business. As a working woman, this is definitely the type of image I want to have when others see me.
