The majority of my wardrobe consists of elevated basics, as my lifestyle is mainly casual. I love having all of the necessary staples, and mixing and matching them to create different looks. Every so often in my rotation of outfits, I mix in a few vintage pieces. These items tend to elevate my looks, as they bring uniqueness to my wardrobe.
Rare Stylish Pieces
Vintage items are mostly one of a kind. I say mostly because depending on the item, you may be able to search and find others like it, and sometimes you can’t. Many say that an item is defined as vintage if it’s at least twenty years old. I like to frequent one of my favorite vintage stores, Design Archives. I’ve found so many gems there over the years that I plan to keep in my closet indefinitely. My most recent find is this vintage suede and beaded coat. Isn’t it fabulous? When I look at it, I’m reminded of a corps style band uniform jacket, but a fashionable one. I most likely won’t see many people in a coat like this, which is good. It’s always nice to have those one of a kind show stopping items that nobody else has. That’s the beauty of shopping vintage. You get unique pieces, while shopping sustainably. That’s a win-win for me!
I find that most items made in years past seem to be better quality than things made nowadays. I don’t know why, but that has been true in my experience. It seems as though things are made faster, and with cheaper materials, which makes me appreciate vintage items even more. When I first saw this coat in the store, just by looking at it, I could tell that the quality was top tier. Then, when I touched the suede and noticed the intricate detail of the beading, I knew that I’d scored an amazing piece. The coat is heavy and 100% suede. You can tell that it was made with the best materials and care.
